How to pack vinyl records for shipping
Always ship records outside the jacket. Slide the LP in its inner sleeve into the mailer next to (not inside) the jacket. This prevents seam splits — the #1 complaint in vinyl shipping.
Use a purpose-built record mailer, not a generic box or bubble mailer. Record mailers have variable-depth scoring that grips the record and prevents lateral movement.
Ship records vertically (on edge), never flat. Flat-stacked records warp under their own weight during multi-day transit, especially in summer heat.
For orders of 3+, place a cardboard pad between every 2-3 records. Stacking pressure concentrates on jacket corners and causes ring wear.
