How to pack fragile & glassware for shipping
For high-value or extremely fragile items, double-box: wrap the item in 3+ layers of bubble wrap, place in a snug inner box, then put that inner box inside an outer box with 2-3" of peanuts or air pillows on ALL sides. This isolates the item from impact.
Use double-wall corrugated boxes (typically 32 ECT or higher) for anything heavy or fragile. Single-wall boxes will crush in transit, especially with anything over 5 lbs. The price difference is small — $1-2 per box at most.
Glasses ship vertically (rim up), not on their sides. Wrap each glass individually in bubble wrap with extra padding around the rim and base. Use cardboard dividers between glasses to prevent contact.
Mark the box "FRAGILE" on at least 3 sides — but don't rely on that alone. Carrier handlers see hundreds of "fragile" boxes per shift; the only real protection is internal packing. Fragile labels help with claims if damage occurs.
