How to pack clothing & apparel for shipping
Poly mailers are dramatically cheaper than boxes for clothing — $0.08-0.15 each in bulk vs $0.80+ for a box. They're also lighter (saves shipping cost) and tear-resistant. Use boxes only for shoes, structured items, and high-value pieces.
For shoes, ALWAYS ship in a sturdy box. Poly mailers crush shoe shape during transit. The retail shoe box inside a 14×9×6 outer mailer box is the standard.
Roll dresses and skirts instead of folding — fewer creases and they fit in narrower boxes. Wrap in tissue paper to prevent dye transfer between items.
For dry-cleaned items still in plastic, leave the plastic on for moisture protection. Add a "do not iron" or "dry clean only" note inside if applicable. Customers appreciate the heads-up.
