How to pack art prints & posters for shipping
Flat shipping (rigid mailer or thin box) is better than rolled for prints valued over $50. Rolling can cause permanent curl that buyers complain about. For prints under $50, a 3" diameter tube with end caps is fine and saves on shipping.
Roll prints with the printed side OUT, then wrap in tissue paper. Counter-intuitive but rolling print-side-in causes the print to fight against its own curl when unrolled, making it harder to flatten.
Always use end caps on shipping tubes. Plastic caps cost $0.10-0.20 each and prevent the tube from being crushed lengthwise. Without them, the tube collapses and the print kinks at every bend point.
For framed pieces, use 1-2" of foam or bubble wrap on all 6 sides plus corner protectors. The glass will break in transit without rigid corner support — those plastic L-shaped frame protectors ($0.50/set) are worth every penny.
